Pet Health Yearly Exam & Vaccinations

Doctor Exam: Recommended for all patients. If owner's choose to decline the exam, please keep in mind that a significant problem could be missed.  We always recommend a doctor's exam.

Dogs and cats should have yearly exams and vaccinations, beginning as early as six weeks old. 

Vaccinations for dogs include
5CVL* -- Includes Distemper, Canine Hepatitis, Leptospirosis & Parvovirus (parvo/corona must be boostered every 6 months)
Bordatella -- Protection against one of the virus's that can cause kennel cough
Rabies -- Required vaccination that must be boostered yearly by a veterinarian in the state of Louisiana

Vaccinations for cats include:
DRTC** -- Distemper Rhino-tracheitis
FELUK, or FeLV** -- Feline Leukemia
Rabies -- Required vaccination that must be boostered yearly by a veterinarian in the state of Louisiana

Fecal Exam: All dogs and cats should have fecal exams done to search for intestinal parasites such as whip worms, roundworms and hookworms.

*Diseases covered by the 5CVL vaccination (for dogs)

  • Distemper: this virus affects the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems.
  • Canine Hepatitis: this liver disease is caused by a virus.
  • Leptospirosis: a disease caused by a family of bacteria that causes a potentially fatal kidney disease.
  • Parvovirus: this serious viral infection causes deadly diarrhea and vomiting.
  • Corona Virus: can lead to serious diarrhea and vomitting

**Diseases covered by the DRTC and FELUK (for cats)

  • Feline Distemper: a viral disease that affects respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems.
  • Rhino-tracheitis: an upper respiratory infection.
  • Feline Leukemia: a serious disease caused by viral infection that impairs the immune system.
